Google Pixel 8a: Release date and price prediction
Google Pixel 8a will most likely be announced on May 14th, when Google I/O 2024 will be held, while Pixel 7a was announced at last year's Google I/O.
However, while the Pixel 7a was also released in May, the actual Pixel 8a release date is less clear, as the Pixel 6a was announced in May of its release year but did not ship until late June. Not yet, but we expect it to be around 2018. In any case, it will be mid-2024.
There are other signs that the Pixel 8a is coming soon, including leaked Pixel 8a packaging and mentions of the Pixel 8a in Android bug tracker threads.
Strangely, before this leak was made, Yogesh Brar Google claimed that the Pixel 8a would probably not boot at all.
It looks like the Pixel A series will be discontinued. With the specs and price increase of the Pixel 7a, it is certain that we will not see an 8a. Google is likely to stick to the vanilla and Pro models in the future, alongside the foldable model.Something similar might happen with Samsung as well.May 1, 2023
Google is developing the Pixel 8a, which appears to be codenamed “akita,” according to a claim from an “anonymous but reliable source” who spoke to Android Authority in December 2022, but the source said , added that Google is developing the Pixel 8a depending on how the Pixel 7a sells. They may discontinue it and move to releasing new A series models only once every two years. But now it seems almost certain that we will see it.
As for the price of the Pixel 8a, Google has increased the price of the Pixel 7a in the US and UK, but this doesn't happen every year. Therefore, the Pixel 8a could be priced the same as the Pixel 7a, meaning a starting price of $499 / £449 / AU$749.
That said, one Pixel 8a price leak suggests it will cost 70 euros more than its predecessor in Germany, and if this were applied in other regions, the starting price would be around $550 / 500 Possibly £/AUD (taking into account the higher sales tax rate in Germany). European countries).

One of the most significant Pixel 8a leaks to date comes in the form of leaked photos of the phone, which show extremely curved corners and very large bezels, and otherwise look like the Pixel 8 (or the Pixel 7a, actually).
Some of these are shown above, where the phone is shown in blue.
Since then, leaked photos of a metal Pixel 8a dummy unit have shown off a very similar design. This dummy unit apparently measures 153.44 x 72.74 x 8.94 mm, making it slightly longer than the Pixel 7a, which could mean the screen is slightly larger than his 6.1 inches.

However, leaked renders shared by SmartPrix and leaker @OnLeaks (one of which you can see below) apparently include dimensions of 152.1 x 72.6 x 8.9 mm. For reference, the Pixel 7a is 152.4 x 72.9 x 9.0mm, so the Pixel 8a is slightly shorter instead.
Otherwise, these renderings show the same design. The screen is apparently around 6.1 inches (similar to the Pixel 7a), and the colors shown here are similar to his Pixel 8's rose hue.

Recently, what appears to be retail packaging for the Pixel 8a leaked, showing an image of the phone from the back. This also matches the design above, this time in black.
And we even saw a video of the Google Pixel 8a in its retail packaging again. This also matches the design above.
As for its colors, what appears to be a leaked render of the Pixel 7a shows four shades for the budget phone. Obsidian (black), Porcelain (white), Bay (blue), and Mint (green). These will be the same shade selection as the Google Pixel 8 Pro, and you can also see the Bay and Mint shades in the video above.
As for the screen, one leak says the Pixel 8a will have a 120Hz display (up from 90Hz on the Pixel 7a). Size and resolution are 6.1 inches and 1080 x 2400, clearly comparable to the Pixel 7a.
Google Pixel 8a: Rumored camera and battery
Based on leaked images, the Google Pixel 8a is expected to come with a dual-lens camera on the back and a single-lens punch-hole selfie camera on the front.
A camera leak is consistent with this, saying that the Pixel 8a will have the same cameras as the Pixel 7a, including a 64MP main camera, a 13MP ultrawide camera, and a 13MP front-facing camera.
There was also some information about the battery, with the leaked Pixel 8a box mentioning 27W charging. This is an increase from the Pixel 7a's 18W, which puts the 8a on par with the standard Google Pixel 8 in that regard. The box also indicates that there is no charger included, which is to be expected.
We've also seen evidence that the Google Pixel 8a may come with useful battery health features such as number of charge cycles and battery manufacturing date.
We don't know the actual capacity of the battery yet, but the Pixel 7a has a 4,385mAh battery, so it's likely to be at least that big.
Google Pixel 8a: Rumored specs and features
Based on past formats, we can assume that the Pixel 8a will probably come with a Tensor G3 chipset like the rest of the Pixel 8 line. In fact, the leaker specifically mentions that his Pixel 8a is powered by his Tensor G3, and has also leaked specs for another more recent version of his Pixel 8a. .
So it should be more powerful than the Pixel 7a and Pixel 7 Pro. In our review of the Google Pixel 7 Pro, we didn't find it lacking in power. Instead, it could rival the Google Pixel 8 in performance.
That said, early benchmarks for the phone, believed to be the Pixel 8a, include an underclocked version of the G3, which actually performs slightly less than the G2, so it might not be as powerful after all. It may not be. The benchmark also mentions 8GB of RAM and Android 14.
We also hear that the Pixel 8a will come in 128GB and 256GB storage versions, while the Pixel 7a may only come in a 128GB configuration.
Meanwhile, another Pixel 8a leak mentions 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, but does not rule out other configurations.
Also, like the other Pixel 8 series, the Google Pixel 8a is likely to come with some AI features.
Google Pixel 8a: What we want to see
The Pixel 7a is a reasonable smartphone, but it's not a special one. As such, there are many things we would like to see improved in the Pixel 8a, including:
1. Improved battery life
Pixel 7a has short battery life (Image credit: Future / Philip Berne)
The biggest complaint about the Pixel 7a is battery life, with reviews finding it difficult to last a full day.
This isn't ideal for a smartphone, so we're hoping the Google Pixel 8a will see a significant improvement in battery life.
2. Faster charging
(Image credit: Future | Alex Walker-Todd)
Lifespan isn't the only issue with the Pixel 7a's battery. I was also disappointed by the slow charging time. It charges at up to 18W, which is very slow by 2024 standards. Currently, the standard Pixel 8 doesn't charge very fast, but we'd like to see an improvement there as well.
So for the Pixel 8a, you need at least 27W charging (to match the Pixel 8), and ideally much faster speeds.
3. Long term software updates
Pixel 7a won't be supported for as long as we would like (Image credit: Future / Philip Berne)
Google makes Android, so it should be in the lead when it comes to how long its phones get software updates, but until recently that wasn't the case.
That changed with the Pixel 8 series, which promised seven years of software updates. We really hope the Pixel 8a can match that.
4. Low price
The Google Pixel 7a costs significantly more than the Pixel 6a (at least in the US and UK), so it's not recommended if the Pixel 7 itself is a bit of a bargain.
So, at the very least, we don't want to see a further price increase for the Pixel 8a, but ideally Google will find a way to bring the price back to Pixel 6a levels. That means you'll be charging around $449/£399/AU$749.
5. 120Hz refresh rate
Pixel 7a only has a 90Hz refresh rate (Image credit: Future | Alex Walker-Todd)
The Pixel 7a has a 90Hz refresh rate, which is nothing special in 2024, even for a mid-range smartphone. So we expect the refresh rate to be increased to 120Hz on the Pixel 8a.
However, I doubt this will happen. While the Pixel 8 features a 120Hz refresh rate, it's unlikely that the 8a will receive the same upgrade.
